Erkki Laukkanen

Erkki Laukkanen is an example of a person with a lasting interest in education and training. After graduating, at the beginning of the 1980s, he went into national manpower planning, estimating the long-term need for skilled labour in Finland. In Spring 2010, he defended his doctoral thesis, “Wage Returns to Training: Evidence from Finland”, in which he suggested that returns on vocational adult education were surprisingly good. Since 1989, he has worked as an economist for the SAK, the Finnish trade union confederation. He lives in Mäntsälä, 60 kilometres north of Helsinki.
